Black or white is a talent search based project created by House of lavinci and partners.
This auditions are all about searching not just the unlimited talent and skill from other but also the drive and determination and heart of willingness to take their talents to the next level.
Black or white will pick each town’s best in, designing, art, music, poetry and dance. In this program tittles and prizes will be competed for the winners will have the chance to share a stage with the most upcoming and established performers, designers and artist at the house of lavinci festival later in the year.
B.O.W is mainly about empowerment to the upcoming generation to expound their abilities , lead their talents and skill to a level that it can be the perfect career path and also improve that they can make their daily bread from what they do, we are aiming to expose positive individuals to the rest of the world and market them while mentoring them to create something great from what they have.
Each town will have a group to represent them for the main show in Nairobi for the main prize and the ticket to be part of the house of lavinci festival.
This project will be divided into series of events in each of the four towns (Nairobi, Mombasa, Nakuru and Kisumu) for three days and on the last night there will be a closing party, all competitors will be judged by a panel of qualified judges and also the mass public at some point. Art, Design and Sound are the sections that this program will be divided into.
Art-everything visual from paintings, pottery, carvings and photography.
Design-personal made designs will be at this point, each design (cloth line, accessories ’jewelry’)
Sound- music (vocals, beat boxing), poetry, rap and instrumentals
All this(sections) are expounded much deeper by the system

The cinematography is soft shades of grey and shadows, the vehicles ancient Ladas and Trabants the color of old chalk. But the scene that jarred my memory and inspired this post, though consistent with the mood and hue was a single scene. Her fellow novitiates pull down a scuffed leather valise that is wrapped with a strap to keep it closed. I rewound to watch the scene again. As she carried her ragged satchel to the car not a soul looked back. There were no billboards, no name brand apparel, no jewelry or makeup. No one paid her any attention. It was not much different from the world of my childhood……just less joyous.

It was never a problem running through St. Dennis woods or Kenwood Park but when I started taking notice of Susie Benny and Judy Renfro, I didn’t want to look like Joe Shit the Ragman (Actually I didn’t make Joe’s acquaintance until 9 years later. JS the RM is a military term for a sloppy dresser or a shitbird.) I doubt Judy Redfro noticed me ….though Susie Benny did….brought on a woodie and a severe case of the stutters. So I started buying Haggar slacks for $7.99 and pegging them on my mothers sewing machine….and as skinny as I was, I had the pencil look down to a tee. There was at least one classmate a week that would split his skin tights up the heinie and be sent to the office. I never did suffer that indignity.

So my year in jewelry started out so promisingly. I really did want to write about my jewelry. I swear.
I even took pictures of the pieces I wore every day…for a while. Then I got busy of course. I got too busy to write every day, so I decided to write once a week. Then I got to busy (and lazy) to do even that.
I did learn some things from this failed experiment:

I have a lot of jewelry
I learned to appreciate the truly meaningful pieces that I own
Sometimes less is more with jewelry
Sometimes more is more fun!
No outfit is complete without jewelry (even if it’s just a simple wristwatch)
Just because an experiment doesn’t work out the way I plan doesn’t mean it’s a complete failure
