We are here, today, to celebrate Christmas. Christmas tradition in American, with some, still includes attending church on the Sunday closest to Christmas Day. Today is the day that we, at the church, celebrate the birth of Jesus.
So, who is this Jesus?
Is he just a child born 2000 years ago that allows us to have a great holiday? Is He just the founder of the most common religion in America? Is He just a baby surrounded by some strange occurrences? Is He America’s merchandising hope to save retail’s bottom line? Is He just the reason for a season we call Christmas? Is there anything about this baby, born in a manger, that makes Him more special than Santa Clause? Is He really worthy of a whole Holiday season and a Winter break for the kiddos? Is all the hoopla surrounding Christmas targeted properly to the One whom the season has been established?
One of the greatest problems I have with Christmas is it has so little to do with the One whom it was established for. We have forgotten the reason for the season. The established government, due to political correctness, religious equality and fear of being partial to anyone has systematically tried to eliminate the reason without removing the hoopla that is so important to the fabric of our material success.
So, who is this Jesus that is held in such high esteem, that 2000 years after His birth, we are still clinging to a day to celebrate His birth? Is this really what we are still celebrating? Do most young people today even realize what we are celebrating?
