Some engineers told me the copper ring inside the copper furnace was broken sometimes when heating-up again and they didn’t know why. There are usually two main questions. One is why it happened, the other one is why it didn’t always happen.
First, we need to understand the reasons why the copper ring would be broken. As we know, there are the quartz sands inside the furnace for filling the gap among the furnace wall, water jacket and copper ring. When you stop melting and holding, the temperature will decrease and at the same time the copper ring and quartz sand will shrink. But generally the proportion of shrink is not the same between copper ring and quartz sand. Therefore, due to the difference of the shrink proportion, the quartz sands will drag the copper ring, then, break it off. The engineer usually heat up the furnace again and find it is not working that attribute to the broken copper ring. They thought that it was broken by heating up again. However, the truth is not that. Though it just happens a few times a year, but some plant even do not happen. The truth of the copper ring break is of the sudden heat-up again, this is cause by artificial.
The copper ring exactly is still connecting even though a bit during the period they stop the furnace, owing to the engineer do not realize the situation inside the furnace clearly, they hope to increase the temperate faster and will select the higher gear to heat-up, such as the second gear, so the copper ring will be broken cause of the sudden heating-up.
