The story of Tbilisi Fashion Week has very much become the story of modern Georgian fashion. It’s an industry on the rise, thanks to the power and personality of fashion week founder and model agency manager Tako Chkheidze. A former model herself, Chkheidze recently oversaw the 5th year and 10th edition of Tbilisi Fashion Week, which concluded with Georgia’s cultured class, celebrities and government ministers gathered together at Chateau Mukhrani Winery for a breathtaking midnight finale by star designer Avtandil Tskvitinidze. “The most important is to have strong collections” says Chkheidze at her Tbilisi office. “Georgia has so much potential”
Chkheidze, better known to all in Georgia’s fashion world simply as “Tako,” began as a dancer form age 6, but after starting modeling age 14 choose a career that took her around Europe’s most prestigious centers of fashion. “Because my husband used to be a diplomat, we lived in Geneva for four years, and Estonia where we stayed there four years,” says Tako, who while based in the cities worked at fashion shows throughout the continent, and worked with jewelry and fashion brands in Zurich and Paris.

“All Georgians are return home though” she says. “It’s something special, when they go abroad working or studying, everybody is trying after to come back. My family is here too, so I prefer staying here and traveling from Tbilisi, doing what I love!”
