Day 3: Hike, Women’s temple, and last night in Siem Reap

0
I had trouble staying asleep last night. I woke up around an hour before our 7:15 alarm and played on my phone. I then realized I felt like crap because my blood sugar was high alll night. :( . Rachael and Sarah ate breakfast at 8 while I rested some
more and showered. (I was able to get some yummy eggs and toast in me before we left at 9).
This was probably our longest Tuk Tuk ride out of the city. Took us about 1 hour to arrive at our destination. The long ride was bumpy but scenic! We chatted the whole time and made comments on things we passed. Rach and I always coo at the cute puppies and kittens. There are soo many around that when someone wants a pet, they just pick one up off the street!! The they dont understand why we would ever pay for one.
Kbal Spean is a riverbed up in the mountains and is know as the “River or a thousand Lingas”. Lingas are symbols of fertility. Vishnu and Shiva are the gods of sexuality, represented in the river. You can see carvings on the stone with water flowing over them.
The hike took about 1 hour and was 1,500 meters long. Since we are three silly people (now with a selfie-poll) we had a really good time running around snapping shots of the three of us. Sarah has also taken a liking to my camera, so I would hand it off to her to take fun photos of whatever we were doing. We made we made a game out of walking to the top by hunting for tree roots in the shape of letters. All of us took turns taking photos of our findings so we could spell out LOVE and CMEH (the name of the mission group).
At the top it look very peaceful and sacred. Butterflies were everywhere! The small blue/grey ones kept landing on all of us. At one point 3 were on my camera while I was taking a photo! We walked along this small river with crystal clear water taking in the peaceful environment. Finally we arrived at the waterfall and got some lovely photos touching the water. Some people make it the trip to wash their face in the water, which ledgeon says when you bathe in the water it promotes fertility, health, and wellness. One man actually stepped into the waterfall completely while his wife took a photo. :) . While walking down, we saw several women actually doing the hike bare footed!!! They had their heals in hand and wore dressy clothing. We were thinking maybe an event was going to be held up there.. But still?! I could never do that hike bare foot.
Once we made our way down, we got back in our Tuk Tuk and were off to our last stop. Our driver was napping when we were gone because he was up til 3am driving the new years drunk people home. He is such a nice guy! Whenever he hears us talking about something we seem fascinated over, he slows down the Tuk Tuk so we can get a picture :) .
We ate lunch at the restaurant near our next destination and reflected on how much fun we had on our hike. Next was Banteay Srei – The Women’s temple, dedicated to Shiva the hindu goddess. The temple is in fact tinted a pinkish color for her. Sarah really loves this temple because of its small size and intricate detail. We had more fun with my camera taking fun/artsy shots.
