The project collects gently used prom dresses, shoes for both boys and girls, suits, belts, business and dress clothes, formal wear and costume jewelry to hand out to the area teens in foster care.
“They girls get their hair done and get to pick out a prom dresses 2015 for cheap prom dress,” McKnight said. “They also get to get manicures and pedicures, and then they have lunch.
“The boys pick out suits and interview Blue La Femme 18726 Jeweled Straps Pleated Low Back Sweetheart Chiffon Dress clothes are taken out by male leaders in the community for lunch and taught job interview skills.”
The project serves teens in 27 East Texas counties.
“For most of them, this is the highlight of their year,” McKnight said. “This will be the only opportunity a lot of them have to experience what some teenagers take for granted or don’t even think about.”
Spring Hill ISD teacher Janna Graham stopped by Wednesday to drop off seven prom dresses for the cause.
“I’ve had these dresses in the closet forever,” Graham said. “I had one prom dress and several bridesmaids dresses. Any kind of formal dress will work.”
The teens keep everything they receive from the project.
Graham helped McKnight with the project when she was teaching at Pine Tree ISD, but she said she still likes to help now that she has moved districts.
“I think we’re serving about 100 teens this year,” Graham said. “We started out with about 20 teens about eight years ago.”
While the project has served numerous teens, it is running low on supplies, McKnight.
“Our supply is almost completely diminished,” McKnight said. “Anything anyone could donate would be helpful. If you have something in your closet you will never use again, it could be a treasure to someone else.”
Donations can be made at Pine Tree Middle School or area CPS offices. McKnight can be reached at 903-295-5160 for pickup.
