You may remember an earlier post about my going through my jewelry and finding a ring Jerry bought me in a pawnshop in Toronto when we were first married. We had very little money, and he wanted to buy something nice. We knew the diamonds were flawed, but the ring was sparkly and we both liked it and he bought it and gave it to me with great flourish. Over the years I received finer pieces, also from Jerry, and since neither I nor Sara nor my daughter-in-law Amy wear much jewelry I thought I might donate this ring, or give it to one of Minga’s daughters. I took it to be valued, just so I’d know what I was giving away. The valuation startled me. It was much higher than I imagined.
I decided to keep the ring, get it sized to fit my finger, and wear it. The ring reminds me of a very happy time in my just-married life, when Jerry and I were so excited to be together and so attuned to showing each other our love.
