Markdowns
• You should go through your racks and mark items down on a weekly basis. It is best
to do this before you get your weekly shipment.
• Always try to trade out items before marking them down.
• Items should not be marked down before they have been in your store for one month.
• Anything over 4-6 weeks should be marked down, with the exception of denim or
winter coats. These items should generally be marked down after 6-8 weeks.
• Be proactive in marking down seasonal merchandise. You don’t want to be doing a
first markdown on winter coats in April, or else you could end up stuck with them all
summer.
• Jewelry and accessories should be marked down seasonally, unless they are on the
website.
• Additional markdowns on your sale items should also be done on a weekly or bi-
weekly basis.
• Try not to mark items down more than half off their original price, unless instructed to
do so, or unless the item is damaged.
• Keep your damaged merchandise in a special bin. Merchandising your damaged
merchandise with your regular sale merchandise gives customers the idea that our
sale rack is for damaged goods.
Website Markdowns
• Markdowns for items on the website are company wide.
• Danielle generally sends out new and additional website markdowns on a weekly
basis.
• Do not mark down items that are on the website until they have either been deleted
from the website, or you receive the markdown list from Danielle.
• Be sure to check the website on a weekly basis if you have an item that needs to be
marked down and has not been included in the Website Markdowns that are sent by
Danielle.
