It’s a snow day today. Luckily, I was already off work for President’s Day, but the whole city is quiet. I have only seen 1 truck drive by the whole morning that I’ve been up, and I’ve seen photos that the police department have posted showing empty roads. Arkansas is funny. It’s snowy, it’s certainly icy outside, but it’s only about 1-2 inches on the ground. Barely enough for a sledding experience, but the city is shut down. I’m kind of glad, since it doesn’t get icy around here often enough for people to have appropriate tires or driving experience.
It’s nice to have a normal/quiet weekend. Last weekend, I was wiped out with a bad virus, one that gave me a big old 103 degree fever and had me out of commission for 6 whole days. It was horrible!!! This weekend, our house is healthy, we had a nice valentine’s day together, and a generally relaxing/good weekend. It’s been too cold to play outside, so we’ve been inside watching movies, listening to music and cooking. So fun!! We decided to skip the horrible restaurant lines and made teriyaki chicken bowls at home for Valentine’s day and had take out Indian food last night.
Valentine’s day is always special for us. Not because of being Valentine’s day necessarily, but because it’s the first day that we started talking to each other. This is now 8 years that we’ve been in contact. We didn’t officially start dating until April 2007, but we always think fondly about how we found each other several years ago. We found our matches, and have happily stayed put since. I realized something crazy…in 2 years, we’ll have been together for 10 years, and we’ll both be 29 years old. More than 1/3 of our lives together at that point!
Steve surprised me with valentine’s presents. This year, we decided that we weren’t going to do Valentine’s gifts for each other. Usually, he buys me beautiful jewelry from Etsy, and chooses something perfectly suited to me. This year, we got an elliptical to improve our health together, and entirely paid off our credit card!! The only debt we have now is our car loan. We decided that it was a more beneficial use of money than Valentine’s presents. The night before, I was commenting that I kinda wished we were doing something sweet for each other anyway. We agreed to go buy some discount chocolate the day after, and I went to bed. I woke up to this!!
What a nice guy :)
My weight loss has been continuing successfully. I’ve not been doing great with being physically active, having been sick on and off most of the year so far. I’ve been combating that by eating smaller portions, and it’s working for me. I’m down 16 pounds since I started this blog, and feeling really positive about the steps that I’ve been taking.
I know I keep saying this, but I’m going to do better posting more often! I love writing, and find blogging cathartic. I think I’ve figured out without question that I can’t do daily. I have a lot going on. But more often than once every few weeks.
Hope everyone is enjoying their President’s day, snow day, ice day, Monday, whatever it is to you.
xoxo
