Repurposed Shelf as Jewelry Holder

Sometimes repurposing isn’t born from, “Hey, I wonder what I could do with that.” but rather from a desire to find a substitute for another item and a lot of times it works better than expected.
For years I have been storing my jewelry in places like drawers, vintage tin cans and a vanity set.  I didn’t like everything being scattered and disorganized so I decided all this jewelry needs just one place to find an abode.  I’ve looked online and at stores at jewelry boxes and never found one that I really, really liked so I decided to turn my gaze inward toward my house.  “What do I have in this house that would be a good jewelry display?” Then I remembered my mom gave me two of shelves that she wasn’t using anymore that I thought would be perfect.

I thought about painting it but the dark walnut stain matched the furniture in our room so I left as it was.
I displayed one shelf in my daughters’ room to hold old jewelry of mine for them to wear as they get older.  I also put a shelf in our room for all the jewelry I rarely wear.

I put the necklaces and bracelets on the shelf fencing.  Then I put earrings, rings and pins on the shelf. It’s not revolutionary or fancy but it keeps the necklaces from getting tangled and I don’t have to search in 20 different places for a pair of earrings. It also displays people’s jewelry handiwork in one snapshot rather than keeping it hidden in a drawer.  I was pleased with the results and the shelf has worked perfectly as a jewelry holder.
