Ballroom Competition Packing Essentials

Having recently returned from my first ballroom competition of the semester, I can say that by far one of the most stressful things about competing is the packing. I’ll admit that I’m a chronic over-packer, but at least I’m always prepared. So, today I want to share some of my essentials for making it through a weekend of ballroom dancing.
1. It should be fairly obvious, but the most important thing to pack is your shoes and outfits. Even if you forget everything else, if you have these two things you’ll be okay. Put those into your bag first and you won’t have to worry about leaving them behind. If you’re feeling extra cautious, think about packing a backup pair of shoes or an extra skirt or shirt, just in case something goes wrong once you get there.
2. Don’t forget the first-aid kit. Trust me, you’re going to want those band-aids and pain-killers after a couple long days of dancing. I also recommend packing rolaids, tums, or other medicine in case you pick up something during the competition.
3. Also think about packing some snacks. Meal times can be quick, short, and far-between during a competition, but it’s still important to keep your energy up, especially if you’re operating on a few hours of sleep. Packing some healthy (or not healthy) snacks can make a big difference for your energy level and mood. Some of my favorite snacks are Ritz crackers, Oreos, and Lucky Charms cereal.
4. Lastly, don’t forget about the comfy clothes. Having a pair of sweatpants, a sweatshirt, and some over-sized t-shirts (preferably with your university’s logo) will make you one happy and comfortable ballroom dancer. Trust me, it will look fabulous with your hair, makeup, and jewelry.
Did I miss anything? What are your ballroom competition essentials?
Happy dancing!
