There was a time when Valentine’s Day made me want to gag! People pouring out the love with chocolate, teddy bears and flowers on one day out of the year but hating each other the other 364, seemed superficial to me. It still is somewhat superficial but having three children changes my perspective. Valentine’s Day now means lots of sugar, sweet notes and treats but it’s also a chance to see more of my favorite two hues together, pink+red. If you’re planning to show some love, which I hope you are, check out my pink+red gift guide.
Haute Pink- By now, you know I like to veer from what’s expected. Wearing red or black to Valentine’s date night dinner is a fashion expectation. Break out of the norm and reach for the bold. A hot pink hue is the perfect style choice. Choosing this color gives you the opportunity to re-style and re-wear this Aryn K dress again in Spring and Summer. Swap accessories, shoes, and a bag- you have another look for the office, weekend or even a summer wedding. Bevello, $20.
Silk Wrap- I love fashion that highlights a designer’s artistic creativity. The ‘A Girl With A Parasol’ scarf is a representation of two artist sisters, Midori and Nanako hail from Tokyo, where they trained in Ceramics and Applied Art and Design, and Texile Design, respectively. Midori’s design is strongly influenced by the five senses, which she believes are essential for creating joy and fulfillment in our lives. Nanako’s specialty is Yu-zen dyeing; a technique used for coloring Kimonos. The scarf’s pastel hues pair wonderfully with the pink dress above. Vida, $40.
Cork It- In addition to being in love with prints and patterns, I love textures. Pelcor is one of my favorite brands. Their handbags and clutches are made from genuine cork. This Pelcor Opera Shoulder bag combines cork, croco and a splash of Amore red. It makes an awesome outfit accessory or a great gift. Pelcor, $135.
Gold Love- Sometimes the best way to say I’ love you’ is to let the jewelry speak for itself. Marlyn Schiff’s Love Necklaces make the statement in words and symbols, sold in gold or silver. The three tier star, love arrow necklace is a must-have Marlyn Schiff, $48.
Red All Over- Beauty essentials can always make a girl smile. Red hot lips, fiery fingernails, and ruby rouge from a few of my faves, Sonia Kashuk and TopShop are on the Love Day list. Grabbing a few shades of each make putting together a beauty basket of must-haves or finishing off your Valentine’s look quite easy.- Target, $10 and up, Topshop, $12 and up
