So I am writing this post sort of to vent and share my frustration with the whole Valentine’s Day idea. You’ve probably heard this rant a time or two in the past. And it was probably from some young single who doesn’t know what to do with that day. Or how you should love your significant other no matter what holiday it is.
Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah. That isn’t this type of rant. Yes I love my boyfriend very much. Am I expecting flowers on Saturday? More than likely I am. Josh (my boyfriend) and I are young twenty-somethings, just graduated college, looking for full time careers, and a place to live away from home. I have a second business and he works part time. By the time we get off of work, there is no time for romance.
And that’s okay. I don’t want fancy jewelry or a fancy dinner date. What I want more than anything for Valentine’s Day is some Chinese take-out, a good movie, and to spend time just relaxing with each other. I feel like that doesn’t happen very much in today’s society. You may physically be next to someone but that does not mean that you are actually spending time with that person. Chocolate and flowers are nice, but my love language goes deeper than that.
If you don’t know anything about the 5 Love Languages, well that’ll be another post.
Remember when you used to make homemade valentine’s for you mommy when you were in grade school? Do something fun like that for your sweetie. He (or she) will love it! Josh has made me some pretty cute cards and surprise gifts that I still cherish 4 years later.
Also remember that Valentine’s Day is about loving yourself too! You cannot love someone else until you love yourself. (This is still a work in progress for me). Go ahead and be selfish this Valentine’s Day and show yourself some love and a little homemade something for your sweetie as well!
