#5 Sharing your time

0
As I was home for Christmas break, I was able to spend some quality time with my grandpa. Usually when I visit home it’s for a weekend, which when you break it down ends up being around a day and a half. Because I was home for an extended period of time, I thought that it was finally a good time for my grandpa to teach me how to cut a gemstone. My grandpa may be the smartest man I know. You can ask him about anything and everything and typically you will get a lengthy answer followed by a personal story that he has experienced. For others, this may be boring or draining but to me, I listen with patience even if it’s the third time I’ve heard the story. :)
My grandpa and I spent 10 hours together learning the art of cutting a gemstone. Not only is he one of the smartest men I know, but also his patience and ability to teach is outstanding. He was able to explain things to me that the average person wouldn’t understand. I feel fortunate to be able to have spent that quality time with him. I know that he appreciated it just as much. I never knew how great of a teacher he was until I was actually one of his students and for that, I will forever be grateful for the special time spent over Christmas break (and other times to come as well).
This will forever be a moment and a talent that I will treasure.
So, I challenge you. Carve some time out of your busy schedule to spend time with a loved one that you necessarily wouldn’t. Even the small act of a phone call can make anyone day. Let them know that you are thinking of them.
