Fervid – adj 1: very hot: burning 2: marked by often extreme intensity of feeling
Edana swept her hand along the Arach’s gleaming, fervid scales. The heat wafting off of them was overwhelming, like holding your hand too close to a roaring bonfire. Despite the danger, Edana longed to touch the gleaming emerald scales; to feel their magnificence even if it meant searing her hand in their heat. She breathed in deep, warming her lungs with the scent of the Arach, and touched the tips of her fingers to its body.
For a moment it scorched her palm and she swallowed a cry of pain, but the fire pushed past her palm and poured into her like liquid sunlight. Edana gasped and pressed both her hands to the Arach’s scales, longing to feel more of the glorious heat. More light and warmth flowed into her body and her eyelids fluttered closed in delight.
Edana yelped and yanked her hands away from the shining scales. The fire had sparked something inside of her, something powerful, terrible, and all her own.
