So today I went to Camden Market!
Still no pictures. Sorry.
I went with 1/2 of the Emilies. It took a bit of work to find the right bus, but find it we did. Once we got off at Camden High Street, a handy map of the area (London is really great about providing maps of the neighborhoods so lost tourists become unlost) led us to Camden Market aka a huge mass of people. The streets have lots of tourist shops, t-shirts, cool things. There was an entire store filled with just leather jackets. Some have giant shoes on the buildings. And people, people everywhere. I kept my hands in my pockets, holding my wallet and map. We got to Camden Lock, the brick building everyone sees in pictures. We smelled food, so we crammed into a tiny alley with clothes stalls on one side and food stalls on the other. Eventually we looped around and explored the other sections of the market before deciding to go back for the chinese food. I got teriyaki chicken and rice for 4 pounds.
The girl checking me out did something that I really hate and should be stopped She handed me my bills and my pound coin in the same handful. Not only does it make it hard to put money back in my billfold, but it’s nearly impossible to make sure nothing spills.
Here is why that’s a bad idea.
I grabbed the bills and the coin. Failed to actually grab the coin.
Clink! It fell against the glass in front of the food.
Pink! It hit the metal counter and…
Plop! bounced into the soup.
Overall, the food wasn’t great, but it was more the experience. Emily and I got the bus back home. I also took an impromptu trip to Victoria Station to buy some tickets and realized that the Apollo Victoria Theater (home of Wicked) was right there! Of course I had to go in and at least walk around the emerald lobby. I asked about student tickets (still too expensive for me) and then got a bus home.
Since it’s Saturday, none of the campus shops are open, so we had to go out. We picked a pub called The Green Man, right by Great Portland St. Station. I had Chicken pie with mash and vegetables and a half pint of some sort of strawberry lime cider. The mash was really good and the brown gravy was the best I’ve ever had. One of the Emilies got Old Mout Cider, passionfruit flavor and it was so good I got a pint and she got another. Okay, so it was 4.85 pounds but it was really, really good.
