Tips for Outlet Shopping

My parents are crazy about good deals. They are not nearly as enamored by the beautiful bags of Chloé or the luscious scarves of Burberry as I am, but they love browsing around and “window shopping.” I grew up going with my parents, the day after Christmas, to go Outlet shopping. Now, having left home for school, I appreciate this time with them even more. I love strolling around the shops with parents, making fun of some of the patterns, being outraged at the $12,000 Valentino dress at Off Saks Fifth Avenue.

Many people thin Outlet shops sell clothes with “tiny mess-ups” like a mis-stitched seam, or that they sell out-of-season apparel. However, many brands, like Brooks Brothers, have completely different buyers/lines for their discounted outlet stores. For example, Brooks Brothers has a different label on their clothes in outlet stores: “346” clothes are made in China, whereas their main line clothes are made in Italy. J Crew also has a separate factory line. So, when outlet shopping, be mindful of that. You might be going in for great deals on brand name clothing, but they aren’t just last seasons clothes – they may be a completely different line.
But, I do have some tips for good finds in outlet malls.
1. They are great for exercise clothes!
I’m not picky about how fashionable exercise clothes are, as long as they look good. Does one grey legging with stripes on the ankle really differ that much from a darker grey legging with no stripes? To me, the answer is no! I found such great deals at Lucy, where I bought two yoga leggings and two yoga tops. On top of the already discounted leggings (down from $89 to $59) and tops (only $29! didn’t even bother to look at original price), I took an additional 40% off all sale items! To me, that is seriously a great deal, given how expensive yoga clothes can be.
