Different kinds of natural resources are available on Earth. Some come from living and organic materials, such as forests and fossil fuels, and others are from non-living and non-organic materials such as water and fresh air. Among these, some are essential for the survival of all species and the well being of the ecosystems and others are used to enhance our lives. Potable water, for instance, is necessary for life and must be used in order to satisfy our everyday basic needs. In fact, without water, our complex bodies wouldn’t be able to survive, plants wouldn’t be able to do photosynthesis and the ecosystems wouldn’t be able to function. In other words, there wouldn’t be life on Earth if it wasn’t for the water resources that are present around us and thus water is a very important natural resource. Unlike water, other natural resources such as oil, gas, gold, are not necessary for life, but rather improve our modern life by providing plastic, fuel and jewelry for example. Since people around the globe have different lifestyles and some lead a simpler life than others, not everyone needs to use these resources, but everyone needs to use water.
Although water is considered to be a renewable resource because it is goes through the water cycle, it is not like solar energy or air, which will always be present. There is a limited amount of water and overconsumption will cause a water crisis. In fact, like minerals and fuels, water is excessively used in our modern world and is under pressure. Also, similar to the exploitation of forests, the overconsumption and pollution of water won’t only lead to the depletion of a crucial natural resource, but it will also cause the destruction of habitats and lead to the extinction of many organisms. Thus, if we don’t use water in a moderate way, there won’t be enough water available in the upcoming years and humans will be the reason behind the suffering of every species and the destruction of the ecosystems.
