Happy Birthday, Keisha

My best friend (now roommate), Keisha recently had her 19th birthday. To me, birthday’s are extremely important, especially for my closest friends. For weeks before, Keisha downplayed her birthday spewing the basic “Oh, you don’t have to do anything for my birthday”, “We can just stay home and watch Gilmore Girls and eat pizza”, “Really, Ri. It’s not a big deal.”
That is not how I role. Keisha is a “rad-ass” (that’s what us, cool college kids, say these days) friend, and deserves a freaking unicorn to show up on her birthday that gives her Frank Ocean tickets. However, since unicorns aren’t real, and Frank Ocean wasn’t coming to Chicago anytime soon, I decided to plan her a “rad-ass” (I’m gonna make it a thing) day.
Now, I’m not gonna brag and say I’m the best friend ever, but, like, if you said it, I wouldn’t disagree. With that, I’m going to share the awesomeness that ensued for Keisha’s special day.
1. The night before Keisha had spent the night in my apartment. We have awesome dorms/apartments at our school with our own kitchen’s, bathrooms, and I had a full-sized loft bed/cave. To make it even harder to get out of my bed in the morning and go to class, I have a geese-feather mattress cover, jersey sheets that are softer than angels’ eyelashes, a feather duvet with a UrbanOutfitter’s hippie-patterned cover, and a white noise fan. Needless to say, Keisha and I have taken many a nap together, and after we found out both of our roommates at the time were raging douche-bags, we began to just sleep together in the comfort of my cave.
2. I woke her up to run (actually walk. We hadn’t had coffee yet, there was no way we were running anywhere) to the Walgreen’s across the street to acquire breakfast ingredients. Note: the Chicago Walgreens on the West loop has a very nice selection of of items that would satisfy most of your grocery, beauty, cleaning, pharmaceutical, and entertainment needs. They even have organic section, so don’t judge. We got our groceries, went back to my apartment, and made an awesome breakfast of strawberries, chocolate chip pancakes, and scrambled eggs.  Also coffee because A. Duh B. We could now run anywhere if we wanted/needed to for any reason. Delicious.
