I love thrift stores. I’m one of those girls who makes a bee-line straight passed all of the major clothing stores and ducks into a consignment shop. There is just absolutely nothing wrong with thrift stores. I remember when I was a kid, even when I was a teenager, I was so embarrassed to be buying my jeans at a local Goodwill. My family didn’t have a lot of money and this was just the way things were. All of my stuff was hand-me-downs from relatives or off of the rack from Goodwill. I had few brand new things, but as a child I was naive. Now I see the potential in things. Now I can see how some clothing from ten years ago, is in style now.
The best part about going to the Salvation Army or Goodwill was when I was able to browse their bookshelves. That was my favorite part. I always had enough in my little purse from mowing grass in the summer or helping a friend on their newspaper route.

However I do not watch a movie based on a book before I read the book. Since I am a fan of MTV’s Teen Wolf and Dylan O’Brien, I really want to see the film. So I mentioned this to my mother before Christmas and of course, being a wonderful Mom, she got me a copy.
I’m really excited to start the book though and I promise (crosses fingers behind back) I will finish the series. Wink.

Synopsis:

Life would never be the same.Since the movie Marley & Me came out back in 2008, starring Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson, I’ve been thinking about reading this book. Countless times I’ve walked past it in the bookstore, stared at it for ten minutes, or walked around the store with it, only to put it back when I leave. The movie was just so heartbreaking for me, and I think it gave me a complex. Feeling brave, I purchased this one from the thrift store. Hopefully I don’t cry.
Marley quickly grew into a barreling, ninety-seven-pound streamroller of a Labrador retriever, a dog like no other. He crashed through screen doors, gouged through drywall, flung drool on guests, stole women’s undergarments, and ate nearly everything he could get his mouth around, including couches and fine jewelry. Obedience school did no good—Marley was expelled. Neither did the tranquilizers the veterinarian prescribed for him with the admonishment, “Don’t hesitate to use these.”
And yet Marley’s heart was pure. Just as he joyfully refused any limits on his behavior, his love and loyalty were boundless, too. Marley shared the couple’s joy at their first pregnancy, and their heartbreak over the miscarriage. He was there when babies finally arrived and when the screams of a seventeen-year-old stabbing victim pierced the night. Marley shut down a public beach and managed to land a role in a feature-length movie, always winning hearts as he made a mess of things. Through it all, he remained steadfast, a model of devotion, even when his family was at its wit’s end. Unconditional love, they would learn, comes in many forms.
Is it possible for humans to discover the key to happiness through a bigger-than-life, bad-boy dog? Just ask the Grogans.

In fact, I kind of, sort of, decided not to read the sequel. So why is it in my TBR pile? Well, best explained, it’s because giving up on a series is a lot like giving up on a puppy with a bad habit of nipping your hand when you try to pet it. It’s annoying, you don’t really want to deal with behavioral training, and it just weighs you down. But it’s a puppy and it could learn new tricks, and he/she may be the best canine friend you’ll ever have. So I’m going to give the Matched series another chance. In all honesty it’s not a bad book. In fact, for some people, it’s an amazing book. We all have particular writing styles that just work for us. This wasn’t my cup of tea. But, I’m not slamming the bookshelf doors on it yet.

- Steelheart (The Reckoners: Book One) by Brandon Sanderson
Synopsis:
How far would you go for revenge if someone killed your father?I’m actually currently reading this one and I must say, it’s been quite the adventure. It’s written in first person, and reading David’s thoughts is so refreshing. He’s incredibly driven by revenge and so intelligent, yet he still sounds and thinks like a teenager. Sanderson has the ability to world build like no one else. His settings are absolutely stunning in my mind. A city made out of complete steel, unbelievable. And he does this without taking up three pages just to describe it to you. I instantly felt like I’d been living in the city of steel all of my life, and that these surroundings were familiar to me. I plan on picking up even more of Sanderson’s novel’s soon. He’s just that good.

David Charleston will go to any lengths to stop Steelheart. But to exact revenge in Steelheart’s world, David will need the Reckoners—a shadowy group of rebels bent on maintaining justice.
And it turns out that the Reckoners might just need David too.

If you ain’t scared, you ain’t human.I’ve been eying this series for ages. But being silly, as many book-lovers can be, the mixed reviews really threw me off. One thing I hate, more than anything else in the book world, is buying the first book in a series and hating it. It really depresses me for some reason. In fact, the same thing happened with the Twilight series for me. I was slow to get on that train, but I was surprised to actually like the first book. The second book was good. The third book was a little taxing. The final book, which I am hesitant to admit, I didn’t even finish. Truly, I am always disappointed in myself when I don’t finish a series and I put myself through a mental conviction process.
When Thomas wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his name. He’s surrounded by strangers—boys whose memories are also gone.

The general impression of the synopsis that I’m getting is that this is going to be a little like the Divergent Series, simulations and dreamscapes. I will be reading it this weekend and will post a review in the next three weeks or so.
Then Darian shows up in her room late one night. He has escaped from the Terrorscape—a nightmare machine used to punish all Noncompliants—and needs Desiree’s help. What he tells her rocks her world to its core and makes her doubt everything she’s ever been told. With this new information, will Desiree and Darian be able to escape the Protectorate before it’s too late?
