Apple is soon to announce their newest piece of technology, the Apple Watch. The article “Apple Watch Could ‘Win the Wrist Back‘” in USA Today explains how the new watch, with three models ranging from $450 to $7500, could be another technology and industry game changer. One of the points the article makes is explaining how the Apple Watch compares to other smart watches and high-end watches on the market.   Companies like Samsung, who have had a smart watch out for quite some time, see this new piece of Apple technology as a potential threat as their products supposedly may not be up to the standards of the new Apple watch. On the other hand, high-end watchmakers, like Rolex, really do not have a concern over the Apple Watch. Their watches are considered luxury products; a typical Rolex customer is not necessarily in the smart watch market. Although the Apple Watch does have a higher price tag than the average consumer may find customary or acceptable, the article mentions that the watch will be something that Early Adaptors are going to embrace. Given how Apple has influenced other markets, computers, phones and tablets, there is a feeling that the Apple Watch could be the new face of what watches now and in the future.
From a personal perspective, at this time I do not have any interest in owning the new Apple Watch. The watches I wear currently are simply used as jewelry pieces or as an accessory, and I do not use them to tell time time. I also think that if my phone already has most of the features of the watch, why would I need to wear my phone on my wrist? The redundant features are not enough to incent me to want to own one. On top of that, I would much rather have something that is much more glamorous that I will own for a lifetime, instead of something that is simply practical and functional that I will need to replace because it is obsolete and the company no longer supports that product. Apple Watch will need to include more unique, superior and technologically advanced features to entice me, and others like me, to consider owning one.
